Origin/meaning

The town belonged to the State of Passau until 1803. According to legend the wolf, taken from the arms of the State of Passau, was granted in the 14th century, but this has been proven to be not true. The oldest use of the wolf dates from 1812, and showed the wolf facing left. In the late 19th century this was changed to the present arms, in which the wolf faces right, as in the arms of the State of Passau.
