Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 31, 1976.

The tree is a canting element, Telge means a young oak tree. The tree already appeared on the oldest seal of the city, dating from 1255. Until the late 17th century all images and seals showed an oak tree with some acorns. The latter were removed in the late 18th century, as a young oak tree was not supposed to have acorns already. In the mid 19th century the acorns were restored.
