Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 16, 1912.
Kamen received city rights in 1245 and the oldest seal is known from 1248. The seal showed a wheel below the chequered bar of the Counts of the Mark, who ruled the city at the time. The arms remained unchanged until the 17th century, when the wheel was placed above the bar.
