Bishop of the military, 1978-1994
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms show the arms of the Archdiocese in I and IV. The other two quarters show the personal arms of the archbishop. The upper half shows part of a crosier, symbol for a bishop. The lower half is based on the arms of the city of Nürnberg, where the archbishop was born. The fleur-de-lys is a symbol for St. Mary. The colour blue is also the colour of Mary.
