Origin/meaning

The County Wernigerode was a small county located in the present-day German state of Sachsen-Anhalt. It existed as an independent territory from 1121-1429 when it was incorporated in the County Stolberg. Capital was the city of Wernigerode.

The arms show two fish from the 13th century counts. The fish have been used for the territory ever since.
