Origin/meaning
The anvil is a canting element for Schmitt (blacksmith), whereas the net is taken as a canting element for hist mother's name, Netzers.
The dove is a symbol of peace and refers to a Friedenburg in Germany (Frieden is peace), from which the family supposedly originates (according to the info from the diocese), except that there is no place Friedenburg in Germany....
The cross in the shield refers to Christianity and the four Evangelists. The cross behind the shiled is Celtic in character and refer to the Titular See of Kells in Ireland. The green colour refers to Green Bay and Ireland.
