SINT-JOOST-TEN-NODE - SAINT-JOSSE-TEN-NOODE
Province : Stadsgewest Brussel / Région Bruxelles
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on March 3, 1914.
The upper half of the arms shows accurately the old castle of Sint-Joost-ten-Noode, built and used by the Dukes of Burgundy in the 14-16th century. The lower half shows a beggar's bag. This is a canting element, Ten Noode can be translated as 'the place of the persons in need'. The lower left half shows a bunch of grapes, symbol for the vineyards that used to be in the area.
The motto is the same as that of Belgium.
