OBERNBREIT

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Kitzingen

Wappen von Obernbreit

Official blazon

Geviert von Silber und Rot.

Origin/meaning

The arms show the quartered shield of the Counts of Castell, who ruled the town in the 13th and 14th century. Later the area became a possession of the Hohenzollern family, who used a black and silver quartered shield. The use of the arms is known from the 16th century. The arms at the time showed a wavy bar in the base of the arms (for the Main river) and an angel as supporter behind the shield. In the 19th century these elements were removed.

Although the arms officially are still quartered silver and red, the municipality uses the arms as quartered silver and black.
