SANDAU (ELBE)

State : Sachsen-Anhalt
District (Kreis) : Stendal

Wappen von Sandau

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1996.

The arms were designed in 1361 by order of Emperor Charles IV. Previously the city used on its seals the same castle, but with the eagle of Brandenburg between the towers. As the city became a possession of the Archbishops of Magdeburg, the patron saint of the diocese of Magdeburg, St. Mauritius replaced the eagle.
