The wavy bend symbolises the Sieg river, that runs through the municipality. The cross is derived from the arms of the [[Köln (State)|State of Köln]], as the western part of the village historically belonged to Köln. The roses are derived from the arms of the Lords of Wildenburg-Hatzfeld, who ruled the eastern part of the village for a long time.
