ANDREW KILLIAN
Born : October 26, 1872
Deceased : June 28, 1939
Bishop of Port Augusta,
Coadjutor Archbishop of Adelaide, 1933-1934; Titular Archbishop of Ratiaria
Archbishop of Adelaide, 1934-1939
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The saltire is the symbol of St. Andrew, the patron saint of the bishop. The upper quarter shows the Southern Cross as a symbol for Australia. The wheat represents the agricultural character of the diocese of Port Augusta. The small church is a reference to Killian, which is derived from old Irish meaning 'a little church near an oak tree'. The shamrock also refers to Ireland.
The motto is: In faith and charity.
