Origin/meaning
The Duchy Arenberg was a small county located in the present-day German state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, bordering the Netherlands. It existed as a Lordship from 117-1509, as a (Princely)-County from 1509-1645 and as a Duchy from 1648-1810, when it was mediatised to the Kingdom of Hannover and the [[Kingdom of Prussia. Capital was the city of Aremberg.
The arms show the arms of the original Counts of Arenberg, who ruled the area until 1280.
