DIOGO REESINK (born as Johannes (Hans) Reesink)

Born : July 28, 1934
Deceased : May 30, 2019

Bishop of Almenara, 1989-1998
Bishop of Teófilo Otoni, 1998-2009

Arms of Diogo Reesink

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The wavy bens symbolises the Jequitinhonha river, which splits the diocese of Almenara into two parts. The Tau-cross is the symbol of the Franciscan order, to which the bishop belonged. It also symbolises the suffering of the people in the North-East of the Minas Gerais State. The lamp symbolises the light, a Christian symbol. The lamp is shown as a mining lamp for the mines and mineral richness of the Jequitinhonha valley, as well as the origin of the Reesink family in the mining area of Limburg in the Netherlands.

The background colour symbolises the dried land.
