Origin/meaning
As common in Australian episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The clover, or shamrock, is a symbol of Ireland, the country of his ancestors. The ship is a symbol for the church carrying the the people to salvation. The lower half shows a wattle, symbol for Australia.
