In Philadelphia Bishop Kenrick had another seal or arms, one inch in diameter, which was blazoned: Cross and lash in saltire, in chief a purse, and in base a closed book, surmounted by a pontifical hat. The motto inscribed around the seal: Gloria Deo pax hominibus, translated: "Glory to God and peace to men." (Luke 2:14).
