The silver and red colours are taken from the arms of the Diocese of Würzburg, to which the village belonged from 840-1803. The letters HP refer to the HImmelpforten Convent which was founded in the village in the 13th cnetury. The initials can still be seen on historical borderstones. The roses are the symbol of St. Mary, the patron saint of the convent.
