  • (Speyer) Schrgägeteilt; zwei Geißeln, die Griffe parallel zur Teilungs­ linie, die Peitschenschnüre mit je zwei Endennach rechts unten bzw. nach links oben gerichtet.
  • (Köln) Gespalten, vorne in Silber ein schwarzes Kreuz; hinten in Gold eine schwarze vierschwä­nzige Geißel.

Origin/meaning

The personal arms show a canting whip (Geissel). When transferred to Köln he combined the whip with the cross of the Archdiocese of Köln, and as cardinal he used the whip as an inescutcheon.
