Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 26, 1962.

The upper part shows the arms of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, as they, and their predecessors, ruled the area from the 13^th century until the 18^th century. They were succeeded by the Bavarian Kings, and the lower part of the arms shows the arms of Bayern.
