Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 2, 1951.

The lion in the arms is the lion of Nassau, as the Counts of Nassau held large areas if the district in historical times. The trefoils are taken from the arms of the city of Usingen. Usingen was also the seat of the Princes of Nassau-Usingen since 1651.
