A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height consisting of a silver wreath of pine, overall a red scroll inscribed "FIRST TO CARE" in silver and supporting a cross divided vertically maroon and silver charged with a light green rod of Aesculapius between a silver arrowhead and a taeguk on either side.

Origin/meaning

Maroon and silver (white) are the colors traditionally used by the Medical Corps. The cross, bearing the rod of Aesculapius, symbolizes medical care and healing. The pine branches denote regeneration and hope. The taeguk honors the unit's decorations and service during the Korean War; the arms of the cross highlight the four Korean War decorations. The arrowhead commemorates the organization's assault landing in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 22 Feb 2000.
