Origin/meaning

Symbolism Shield Oriental Blue is the primary color traditionally used by Military Intelligence. The checky field, symbolizing a chessboard, refers to the unique skills of strategy necessary for the success of the intelligence mission. The sunburst alludes to the motto, the mission effort to gain data and information to serve the best national interest. The demi-griffin, mythological symbol of intelligence and valor, denotes the ideals and goals of the unit. Scarlet indicates courage and sacrifice, gold signifies excellence. Crest The crest is that of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Background The coat of arms was authorized on 9 Oct 1997.
