MICHAEL HUGHES KENNY
Born : June 26, 1937 in Hollywood, USA
Deceased : February 19, 1995
Bishop of Juneau, 1979-1995
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The gold shield represents the English roots of a Kenny family (not related to the Bishop).
The three blue crescents with the fleur-de-lis in the center are heraldic devices of the Kenny’s and the fleur-de-lis symbolizes the resurrection of Christ.
The crescent moons receive their light from Christ the Light of the World.
The triangle is banded with blue and red, representing the heraldic arms of the Ticino Canton, Switzerland for the maternal ancestors of Bishop Kenny.
A rose represents St Rose of Lima the Patroness of the Diocese of Santa Rosa where he served. He was the first priest from that diocese to be named a bishop.
