Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
BORNHEIM
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Rhein-Sieg Kreis
Additions : 1970 Hersel, Sechtem
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on May 6, 1971.
The arms are based on the oldest seal of the village Brenig, which dates from the 13th century. It showed the arms of the Lords of Bornheim, from which the bar in the present arms is derived. The sword was added as a symbol of St. Michael, the patron saint of the village of Waldorf. His image was seen on the seals of Waldorf since the 14th century.
