Origin/meaning

The arms of were granted on November 14, 1967.

The arms are a combination of an element symbolising the forests of the Spessart region (oak leaves), the wheel of the State of Mainz and the arms of the Lords of Mespelbrunn. The city of Aschaffenburg (which is actually not a part of the district) was one of the major cities and strongholds of the prince-bishops of Mainz. The arms of the Lords Echter von Mespelbrunn were added as the important bishop Julius of Würzburg (bishop from 1573-1617) belonged to this family.
