3RD CHEMICAL BRIGADE, US ARMY

Coat of arms (crest) of the 3rd Chemical Brigade, US Army

Official blazon

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: A purple hexagon, 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height overall, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) gold border, with scarlet flames issuing from base throughout, surmounted by a black arrowhead charged with the numeral "3" in gold.

Origin/meaning

The hexagon, suggesting crystalline formation, represents chemistry. The flames and the colors scarlet and purple allude to the mission of the chemical brigade. The arrowhead denotes willingness to attack and defend; its triangular form symbolizes the unit's designation.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 19 November 2002. It was amended to change the background color on 29 November 2002. Unit is entitled to a Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) and have chosen not to have one authorized. The brigade will wear the DUI authorized for their higher headquarters, the U.S. Army Chemical School.
