MATTHEW BEOVICH

Born : April 1, 1896
Deceased : October 24, 1981

Archbishop of Adelaide, 1939-1971

Arms of Matthew Beovich

Official blazon

Azure, a fesse argent, charged with three crescents gules and, in chief, a Latin Cross of the second.

Origin/meaning

The three crescents are from the armorial device of an Irish Kenny family (and refer to the maiden name of the Archbishop's mother).

The cross is a reference to Rome and to the ancestry of the Archbishop's father, has the place of honor on the shield.
