Origin/meaning
The first quarter represents hope; green is the colour of hope, the phoenix a symbol of resurrection and hope for better times. The second quarter symbolises love with the red colour and rose. The base shows a bible, symbolising his doctorate in theology.
The motto can be translated as under the stone and thus is canting (Ondersteijn - 'onder steen' = under stone) and is taken from Isaiah 18:16.
