Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 23, 1999.
The seven bars refer to the seven quintas (estates) mentioned in the charter of King D. Manuel on Melres. The fleur-de-lys is the symbol of St. Mary, the local patron saint.
The base shows rye and corn, and refer to the agricultural character, as well as to the tribute that the local council had to pay to the representative of the king.
