The arms were  officially granted on March 13, 1948 and in above composition adopted on June 22, 1992.
The arms were  officially granted on March 13, 1948 and in above composition adopted on June 22, 1992.


The arms show three pine trees and a wavy bar. The pine trees are a symbol for the forests in the area, the wavy bar is the Saale. On the original design from 1948 the arms were surrounded by 8 medaillons, each with symbols of one of the main industries in the district; Forestry, Mining, Agriculture, Printing, Leather industries, Textile industries, China manufacturing and Machine manufacturing. These, however, were never used around the arms.
