The arms quarter the arms of the (arch)diocese with the personal arms of the bishop.

The Lamb of God is taken from Bishop Martin Modéus home parish, Sofia in Jönköping, the lion symbolizes courage, and together the bishop believes that they give an association to Isaiah's vision of paradise, "where predatory animals and domestic animals lie together in peace", but also that through the division of the shield they show that we are not there. The division into three mountains shows a bridge and the bishop's role as a bridge builder.

Swedish Kvadrerad, första och fjärde fältet rött, vari två korslagda nycklar av silver, överlagda en stolpvis ställd kräkla av guld (Linköpings stift), andra och tredje fältet delat genom en fjällskura med tre fjäll i silver, vari ett gående blårt lejon med röd beväring, och blått, vari ett gudslamm av silver med röd beväring och gloria av guld, bärande en korsstång av guld med en tvåtungad fanduk av silver belagd med ett rött kors (Modéus).
