The bull's head is taken from the arms of the Princes of Werle, who had a large influence in the county and its cities. The eagle represents the rich nature. The gate represents the four cities in the district ([[Waren (Müritz)|Waren]], [[Malchow]], [[Röbel]], [[Penzlin]]), whereas the large number of lakes and brooks in the area is represented by the waves.
