The arms refer to the Abbey of [[Grafschaft_(Schmallenberg)|Grafschaft]], to which the area historically belonged. The quarters show the arms of the different families that ruled the area for the abbey; the first and fourth show the arms of the Counts of [[Dassel]] and the second and third the arms of the Lords of Fürstenberg.
