NORTH SAANICH
Province: British Columbia
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were adoprted in 1968.
The thunderbird in the center of the shield denotes the First Nations heritage while the alternating coniferous and deciduous trees above it indicate the importance of the environment. The ocean is represented by the wavy lines around the shield and the sail at the top. The flower on the sail is the Dogwood, which was and is prevalent throughout the area while the wings on either side of the sail indicate the airport.
The motto, expressed in the Saanich language, is loosely translated to mean "the land where it is good to be".
