METTMACH
State : Oberösterreich
District : Ried im Innkreis
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on June 13, 1983.
The first quarter shows the Mettmacher Ache, a small river running through the town. The second quarter shows the head of a mammoth or a mastodont, as in the local quarries often teeth and bones of either animal were found. The lower part shows two masks as a symbol for the Mettmacher Easter festival which are held every 5 years and which are famous throughout the country.
Literature : Baumert, H.E. : Oberösterreichische Gemeindewappen, Linz, 1996.
