The two red balls are taken from the arms of the Kolb von Wartenberg family, lords of the villages of Mehlingen and Sembach. The fleur-de-lys is a symbol of St. Mary, who appeared on the seal of the Enkenbach Abbey from 1493 onwards. The fleur-de-lys is one of her symbols, as are the colours silver and blue. The fleur-de-lys may also refer to the arms of the Randeck family, which also had a number of possessions in the area. | |||
