Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 5, 1957.

The chief shows the chequered arms of the Counts and County of Honstein, to which the village belonged, before it became a possession of the Dukes of Braunschweig. The horse is taken as a symbol for the Duchy of Braunschweig, to which the village belonged for many centuries. The base shows the Harz mountains and the copper and iron mining in the area.
