Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: A shield-shaped device 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 3/16 inches (5.56 cm) in width overall consisting of a shield base divided diagonally into two halves from the viewer’s upper right to lower left, white above and dark blue below, with a narrow light blue stripe against the dark blue in the top of the shield, over all the head of a Trojan Warrior, face white, helmet light blue, all details dark blue surmounted by a dark blue and white circular shield arced in base, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) dark blue border.
Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves blue over white, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound. Attached below the shield an arced blue scroll inscribed “LOS ANGELES USD” in gold letters.
Origin/meaning
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved 11 March 1975. The Shoulder Loop Insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931. It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a Motto Scroll.
