Origin/meaning

These are the arms of the Benedictine monastery of Saints Peter and Paul in Tyniec. The sword and key are the symbols of Saint Paul and St. Peter respectively. The city belonged to the monastery from the granting city rights in 1358 to the first partition of Poland.
