ZAVELSTEIN
State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Calw
Incorporated into : 1975 Bad Teinach-Zavelstein
German | Geschacht von Rot und Gold in sechzehn Plätzen.
Origin/meaningThe arms of Zavelstein are known form the oldest seal of the city, dating from 1468. The arms are canting, the arms show a Schach-zabel, or chess field. The arms thus have not changed since, except in the early 18th century when the city became a possession of Württemberg in 1710. For some time the arms showed in the upper part in gold three black deer antlers and in the lower part the chequered field, but in the colours of Württemberg, gold and black. In the mid 18th century the city again used the old arms.
