Origin/meaning

The arms were registered on October 17, 1997.

The wine bunch represents the winemaking tradition of the municipality while the mill stone in the lower field acts as a canting element. A "žernov" is an archaic word for a mill stone while "sek" derives from the word "sekat" - to chop or cut, likely referencing a stonecutting trade in the municipality. The same symbolism is employed by the municipality of Malé Žernoseky which lies on the opposing side of the Elbe river.
