HERMETSCHWIL-STAFFELN

Canton : Aargau
Incorporated into : 2014 Bremgarten

Wappen von Hermetschwil-Staffeln

Official blazon

In Blau gekrönte gelbe Schlange, schwarz gezungt.

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1964 and are derived from the arms of the local Hermetschwil Abbey.

The village seal showed in the late 18th century a linden tree, probably showing the local large tree, or a symbol for justice. The tree was used as arms in the early 20th century. In 1939 the tree was felled and the significance of the arms was lost. In 1964 the village adopted the arms with the snake, already proposed by Walter Metz in 1914 as arms for the village.
