Administrative division

The Swiss Confederation consists of 26 cantons, which have, in comparison with the situation in other countries, a high degree of independence. The Cantons comprise a total of 2,485 municipalities, which, in some cantons, are clustered into Districts (Bezirke, Rayons).

All cantons and nearly all the municipalities use arms. Only a few districts use arms.
