Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1964.

The lion is taken from the common seal of the Obergericht Vilden, to which Villingen belonged. The lion is taken from the arms of the Counts of Solms, who ruled the area. The divided shield is the arms of the Counts of Münzenberg-Falkenstein, who ruled the region until the 16^th century.

The arms below were proposed in 1956 and do not show the silver aura nor the wings.
