Official blazon

In Gold eine stilisierte blaue Rose. Auf der Rose ein golden bewehrter, neun Mal von Silber und Rot geteilter Löwe.

Origin/meaning

Sontra received town rights in 1368, but the oldest known seal dates from 1516. The seal shows the lion of Hessen in a hexagonal figure, later in a square. In the seal from 1610 the lion was placed on a rose. This combination was already used previously, as the arms also appear in the roll of arms by Siebmacher from 1605. Later seals and images all show the same composition, although the size and shape of the different elements has different somewhat during the centuries.
