WOLFSTEIN (WOS)
State : Bayern
Incorporated into : 1973 Freyung-Grafenau
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 6, 1957.
The upper part of the arms shows the wolf of Passau, as the main part of the district belonged to the State of Passau until 1803. The lower part shows again a stick as a symbol for the bishops, and a shovel for the work which was carried out under supervision of the bishops. The bishops instigated many projects to clear the forests and built villages.
