Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1988 after a local contest.

The heron refers to the nature reserve Wublitz and in more broader sense to th elakes in the municipality. The apple tree refers to the importance of horticulture in the area. The five apples refer to the five institutions that dealt with horticulture in the GDR: The Humboldt University in Berlin, the Zentralstelle füs Sortenwesen, the Institute for fruit culture in Dresden, the LPG Obtstproduktion and the horticultural schools.
