Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on June 16, 1958.

The cross in the right half of the shield is the cross of the Order of St. John, as the city of Villingen was the seat of one of the main Chambers of the Order in the south of present Germany. The Chamber existed from 1257 to the 19th century. The left part shows the arms of Austria, as the area historically belonged to Austria, in the colours of the arms of the city of Villingen
