Origin/meaning

The shield is white for Infantry. The saltire represents service during the Civil War, the blue indicating that the organization fought on the Northern side.
The gold lion, from the arms of Great Britain, represents Revolutionary War service; the prickly pear cactus, duty on the Mexican Border; and the fleur-de-lis, service in France during World War I.
The Crest is that for Regiments and Separate Battalions of the Connecticut Army National Guard.

The coat of arms was approved on 1927-03-26. It was amended to correct the blazon of the shield on 1927-04-04.
