The Star denote the many types of mission taskings undertaken by the Battalion, the first Muntifunctional Medical Battalion of the US Army. The lightning flashes refer to the Early Entry Element of the Battalion and also the speedy response to mission requirements.

The Coat of Arms and Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 18 May 2006. Literature: The Institute of Heraldry, US Army.
