Crest: From a wreath Or and Vert, a double bladed axe surmounted in base by a laurel branch and a palm frond in saltire Proper.

Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Vert, on a bend Argent a baton of the field, in chief a Chinese sun symbol Or; attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed “ASSIST BY EXAMPLE” in Green letters.

Origin/meaning

Shield: The shield is green for the Military Police Corps. The baton is a heraldic symbol for authority and military control. The bend is derived from the military sash or belt and alludes to the white belt and accessories of the Military Police uniform. The golden sun represents service in China during World War II. Crest: The double bladed axe represents service in two theaters of operation, as well as constant vigilance and preparedness. The laurel underscores the American Theater of Operation, while the palm frond is for the Pacific Theater.

The arms were originally authorized on 10 December 1952. It was amended to include a crest on 21 July 1997. It was amended to correct the blazon of the crest on 11 January 2007. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved on 10 December 1952. It was amended to update the description and symbolism on 6 August 1986.
